The itinerary
Day 1: Train journey and arrival
First, you take the beautiful Bergensbanen train into the mountains to the remote village of Finse seeing extraordinary views from the train on the way. In Finse you will meet your guide and new companions and collect your skis, and we start as we mean to continue: with a cozy meal together.
Day 2: Learn to ski
The next day is a combination of getting our skis on and going for a ski walk from Finse. If you do not know how to ski yet here we can teach you the basics too. If you have some good balance and some basic fitness, you'll likely pick it up pretty quickly.
We spend another night with the hospitality of Finsehytta mountain hostel before setting off properly on our tour the next day.
Day 3-5: Journey to new huts
Each day of the tour, we pack our backpack with the essentials for the day (including a flask of hot drink and a packed lunch from the hut!) and ski off into the mountains. We follow the winter DNT trails and ski approximately 15-25km each day between the wilderness huts.
About the huts
Some huts are staffed and the hosts will prepare meals for us and some are more remote and your guide will cook dinner for you. Either way, there is plenty opportunity for taking some time to relax in the evenings by the fire or with a cup of hot chocolate.
The rooms in mountain huts are shared, most commonly between 2 and 4 people. Being so remote, the facilities are basic and we use sleeping bag liners under the provided duvets. It's not possible to shower every day but there is always space to dry our clothes ready for the next day.
Day 5: Return to Finse
Finally we ski back to Finse for a last hurrah meal at Finsehytta. Maybe you want to sample local beer from Finsehytta's microbrewery.
Day 6: Departure on the mountain train
The train connects from Oslo, through Finse all the way to Bergen. Perhaps you organise your flights so you arrive into one city and fly out the other to complete the entire route. Either way, your final views from the train will be spectacular.

I can't ski, can I join?
Absolutley!
We spend the first day teaching you how to cross country ski if you don't already know how.
All you need is a little balance and some fitness and likely you will pick it up quickly.
How fit should I be?
This trip is physically demanding, but you don't need to be a super-hero by any means.
We will ski between 15-20km, with around 400m of ascent, carrying a 10kg rucksack each day.
A good guideline could be if you could hike Snowdon for five days in a row without too much hassle, you're probably good.
